Coral Springs Medical Center Expands Emergency Department to Meet Needs of Patients

To alleviate long wait times and crowded exam rooms, Coral Springs Medical Center has broken ground on a new $21 million, 28,000-square-foot Emergency Department.

When built in 1987, the hospital’s ED was designed to serve the modest population of Coral Springs with just over 47,000 residents.  Within the past two decades, Coral Springs has almost tripled in size, to over 130,000 residents.  This number doesn’t include the surrounding cities of Tamarac, Coconut Creek, Margate, and Parkland which Coral Springs Medical Center also serves.

The construction project will double the size of the current ED and will also add the most state-of-the-art, life-saving medical equipment available.  In addition, exam rooms have been designed with a patient’s comfort and privacy in mind.  All rooms are private, each with their own telephone and television.

“We currently see 48,000 patients a year in our ED and will be able to serve as many as 60,000 after the expansion,” said Dr. Daniel Stone, Emergency Department Medical Director for CSMC. “We anticipate a decrease in turnaround time while increasing patient satisfaction.”

The expansion will increase the number of patient beds from 23 to 40 (26 adult beds, 8 pediatric and 6 “fast track” beds). The fast track beds will specifically treat patients with low-risk emergencies which should help decrease the amount of time they spend in the ED.

“Decreasing both patient and clerical congestion were our major priorities,” says Drew Grossman, Interim CEO of CSMC. “I am confident that patients will experience a noticeable improvement when visiting our new emergency department.”

Construction of the new building is scheduled to be completed by December of this year.  Naming opportunities are available.  If you would like information on how you can donate to this important project, please contact the Broward Health Foundation.
