Lillian S. Wells Women's Health Pavilion

UPDATE: Construction Started on Lillian S. Wells Foundation Women’s Center

Construction began last month on the new 13,000-square-foot Lillian S. Wells Foundation Women’s Health Center.  The new center, located at Broward Health Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, will offer the most advanced technology for gynecological services, a dedicated breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, digital mammogram machines, bone density screenings, therapeutic massages and more. In addition, the center will offer specialized cardiac assessments and screenings, support groups as well as health and wellness classes.

The center is made possible through a gift of more than $4.5 million from the Lillian S. Wells Foundation and will be open to all women in our community, regardless of their ability to pay.  Construction will be completed by December of this year.  “We’re looking forward to opening the doors to what will be the most user-friendly, state-of-the-art women’s center in our community,” said Michael S. Long, president of the Broward Health Foundation.

Below are conceptual photos of what the Lillian S. Wells Foundation Women’s Center will look like when completed.

Broward Health Foundation Receives $4.5 Million Gift to Build the Lillian S. Wells Foundation Women’s Health Pavilion
Donation is Single Largest Gift Ever Given to Healthcare System

“With this donation, we’re able to make the Lillian S. Wells Foundation Women’s Health Pavilion a one-stop-shop for women in our community,” said Broward Health vice president Michael S. Long, who leads the fundraising efforts for the Broward Health Foundation. “We recognize that women today lead very busy lives. Many of them work, take care of children, take care of parents, and too often neglect their own healthcare needs while taking care of others. This will offer them a convenience that is lacking at many healthcare facilities.”

“Recognition of the importance of a woman’s health to her family and the community as a whole was the impetus for the Lillian S. Wells Foundation to partner with Broward Health to provide access to quality healthcare for the women of Broward County,” said Patricia Mulvaney, executive director of the Lillian S. Wells Foundation. “The Directors chose Broward Health because of its commitment to meet the health needs of all women, whether insured, underinsured or uninsured. Through a previous gift of $1 million for the purchase of digital mammography equipment, Broward Health displayed the ability to effectively improve access to and the quality of healthcare for the women in our community.”

Since 1975, the Lillian S. Wells Foundation has participated in the economic, cultural and communal development, growth and future of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County. The Foundation contributes to the local community through grants to support the arts, education, healthcare and human services. Wells Foundation Board of Directors include Barbara S. Wells, Barbara W. Kenney, Judith Bowen and Joseph Malecek.

Construction of the Lillian S. Wells Foundation Women’s Health Pavilion is expected to begin mid-2009 and should be completed within 18 months.
